Short answer: Submit your inquiry with your logo or design idea, and Togethread will send a digital mockup—showing your design on the actual garment in the actual colors—within 24 hours, at no charge and with no commitment to buy.
A mockup is the single most important step in any group apparel order. It’s the difference between “this looked great in my head” and “I’d actually wear this.” Here’s exactly what to expect and how to use it well.
A shirt mockup is a digital rendering that shows:
It’s not a photo of a finished shirt—it’s a design visualization. The goal is to confirm placement, colors, and scale before anything is printed.
With Togethread, the timeline works like this:
You never pay the full amount upfront, and production never begins before you’ve seen and approved the design.
Vague feedback leads to more rounds and more time. Here’s what works:
| Vague | Specific |
|---|---|
| ”The colors look off" | "The red should match our school color—Pantone 186 C" |
| "Make the logo bigger" | "Increase the logo to about 10 inches wide across the chest" |
| "Something’s not right" | "The logo should be centered on the left chest, not the full front" |
| "Can we change the shirt color?" | "Switch the shirt from black to navy blue” |
If you have a brand color guide, attach it to your first email. If you don’t, send a reference image of something that’s close to what you want.
The cleaner your input file, the sharper the mockup (and the final print). In order of preference:
If you only have a low-res version of your logo, see our guide on what file you need to print a logo on a shirt.
There’s no self-serve mockup tool. A real designer looks at your brief and creates the mockup manually—which means they catch things an automated tool won’t, like a logo with colors that won’t translate well to fabric, or a design that’s too detailed for embroidery.
You get up to three design concepts in the first round. Most orders are approved within two rounds of revisions. There’s no fee for the mockup or revisions—it’s part of the service.
What if I don’t have a logo or design yet? Describe what you want—your team name, colors, and the general feel (bold and sporty, clean and professional, etc.)—and the designer will create something from scratch. This is included at no extra charge.
Do I have to commit to buying once I request a mockup? No. The mockup is free with no obligation. You only commit when you approve the design and pay the deposit.
What happens if the finished shirts don’t match the approved mockup? You’ll receive photos of the finished garments before paying the balance. If there’s a quality issue that differs from what you approved, it gets resolved before the order ships—not after.
