START WITH HOW IT SHOULD FEEL

Three heavyweight directions—not one universal best

GSM measures fabric mass, not overall quality. We use it as one decision alongside cotton, yarn, knit, finish, fit, and climate.
01 · EVERYDAY SUBSTANTIAL

About 200 GSM

More body than a typical event tee without pushing into a deliberately dense streetwear feel.

Feel
Substantial, wearable
Best for
Schools, reunions, offsites
Watch
Opacity and collar recovery
03 · EXTRA HEAVY

240–280 GSM

An intentionally weighty, merchandise-led direction with the strongest body and warmest wear.

Feel
Very dense, statement-like
Best for
Premium drops, cooler weather
Watch
Stiffness and active use
Side-by-side cream T-shirts showing increasingly structured drape from lightweight to heavyweight

WEIGHT AND FIT ARE SEPARATE

Choose the silhouette after the fabric

A 220 GSM shirt can still be regular, relaxed, boxy, or oversized. Treating “heavyweight” as a fit description is one of the easiest ways for a mixed group to get the wrong result.

RegularFamiliar shoulder and body proportions—the safest mixed-group starting point.
RelaxedA little more room without turning the shirt into a fashion-specific oversized cut.
OversizedDropped shoulder and wider body; best when the group explicitly wants that silhouette.

HEAVY DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY MEAN GOOD

Check the construction behind the number

01

Fiber and yarn

Ask for the cotton percentage and whether the yarn is combed or ring-spun. Surface smoothness affects both feel and print detail.

02

Collar recovery

A substantial body needs a collar that returns to shape. Rib quality and reinforcement matter more than a marketing label.

03

Stability and shrinkage

Confirm whether the fabric is pre-shrunk or stabilized, then check finished-garment measurements instead of relying on size letters.

04

Opacity and finish

Cream, white, and pastel colors deserve a close-up or sample. Higher GSM often helps opacity, but knit and fiber still decide the result.

BUILD A WEARABLE PALETTE

Start with colors the group already owns

Dark neutrals make a heavyweight tee feel more merchandise-led; cream and muted colorways soften the silhouette. We check artwork contrast on the actual garment direction before approval.

HEAVYWEIGHT T-SHIRT FAQ

Before you choose the thickest option

The goal is a shirt your group wants to wear—not the highest GSM number on paper.

What GSM counts as a heavyweight T-shirt?

Around 200 GSM and above is a common starting point, but the label is not standardized. Compare the actual GSM, fiber, yarn, knit, finish, and fit instead of relying on the word “heavyweight” alone.

Should our group choose 200, 220, or 250 GSM?

About 200 GSM is a practical substantial everyday weight, 220 GSM gives a firmer premium silhouette, and 240–280 GSM creates a deliberately dense merchandise or streetwear feel. Climate and activity matter as much as the number.

Does heavyweight mean oversized or boxy?

No. Fabric weight and garment fit are separate choices. A heavyweight shirt can use a regular, relaxed, boxy, or oversized cut; we confirm the silhouette in the garment specification and mockup.

Which printing method works on heavyweight cotton?

DTF and screen printing both work well when the fabric and production settings are matched correctly. DTF suits detailed full-color artwork; screen printing is strong for simpler repeat graphics. Small embroidery can work, but large stitch areas may feel stiff.

How much do bulk custom heavyweight T-shirts cost?

The exact price depends on GSM, yarn and finish, quantity, garment color, artwork size, print locations, and personalization. We quote the garment, decoration, duty-paid delivery, and applicable fees together so you can compare the real delivered total.

Can youth and adult sizes be mixed?

Yes. Mixed sizes can be included in one coordinated 50-piece order. Because youth and adult blanks may differ slightly, we confirm the available size range and closest matching fabric before production.

How far ahead should we start?

Start about 5–6 weeks before the event. The normal planning range is 15–20 business days to your door after the mockup and deposit are approved; the extra time protects approvals, size collection, and delivery.
